Background
Southland was engaged by Axis Plumbing to provide comprehensive water treatment solutions for the recently completed Canberra Hospital Expansion Project. Our expertise was sought to ensure strict compliance with Australian Standard 5387:2023 and to effectively remove sediment from the water supply.
Objectives
For the Mains Inlet System it was to supply, install, and commission a system incorporating mains inlet filtration, UV sterilisation, pH correction, and chemical disinfection equipment to ensure the quality of water entering the building.
For the CSSD RO System it was to install, and commission a pre-treatment system and two side-by-side CSSD RO Systems for the new CSSD.
Challenges
Tight timelines were one challenge, where our team needed to meet competing deadlines and priorities while working collaboratively with stakeholders.
The second challenge was to resolve challenges related to plantroom layout, location, and orientation to achieve optimal results.
Solution
Southland engineered bespoke solutions tailored to both potable cold water treatment and purified water systems for the CSSD:
- Potable Cold Water – Sediment removal, UV disinfection, chlorine dosing, and recirculation of potable cold water storage tanks.
- CSSD – Sediment removal, water softening, carbon/dechlorination, reverse osmosis with endotoxin retention and automatic thermal sanitisation, and customised sanitary heat exchanger assemblies.
Outcome
Leveraging our extensive experience and expertise, we successfully commissioned and operationalised each system, ensuring the Canberra Hospital Expansion Project met the highest water quality standards.
