Background
We were tasked by NSW Health to design and install a Reverse Osmosis (RO) water system for the Endoscopy Department at South East Regional Hospital, Bega. The project was necessitated by an unexpected contamination of the town water supply, which caused the hospital to fall short of the standards outlined in Table 7.3 of AS/NZS 5369:2023 Amendment No. 2 (formerly 4187:2014).
Objectives
The primary objective was to achieve and maintain long-term compliance with micro-biological water standards.
Challenges
The project faced several significant challenges:
- Producing micro-biologically compliant water at 35°C, the optimal temperature for biological activity.
- Ensuring the water conductivity remained within the limits required for endoscopy reprocessors.
Solution
Leveraging our expertise in process chemistry and dedication to long-term compliance, the Southland Filtration team designed and installed a customized EndoTherm RO water system. This innovative solution effectively addressed the contamination issue and met all the client’s stringent requirements.
Outcome
The RO water system for the Endoscopy Department has maintained over 18 months of compliance with Table 7.3 standards following the installation of our system. This success not only resolved the immediate contamination problem but also ensured ongoing compliance with regulatory standards.
In Summary
Southland Filtration Pty Ltd’s commitment to quality and compliance has delivered a reliable, long-term solution for the South East Regional Hospital, ensuring safe and effective water filtration for its Endoscopy Department.
