Background
The Victorian Heart Hospital is Australia’s first standalone heart care hospital, a state-of-the-art healthcare facility, designed to provide world-class cardiac care. As a critical component of the hospital’s infrastructure, reliable and efficient water purification systems were essential to ensure optimal patient care and research.
Objectives
We were tasked with assisting the hydraulic engineers in designing and implementing a comprehensive water purification system for the hospital. The project encompassed three key objectives:
- RO Water Supply for CSSD and Endoscopy – Providing high-quality water for sterilisation and endoscopic procedures.
- RO Water Supply for Dialysis Machines – Delivering purified water for dialysis treatments.
- Type II Purified Water for PC2 Laboratory and Pathology – Supplying ultra-pure water for sensitive laboratory applications.
Challenges
The project presented several challenges to meet the diverse needs of different departments requiring tailored water purification solutions. There were tight deadlines to meet for hospital construction and commissioning, and adherence to strict healthcare regulations and standards.
Solution
Our approach involved the integration of advanced water treatment technologies:
- Endotherm Reverse Osmosis – A high-performance system for producing high-quality RO water.
- Herco Demineralised Water System – A reliable solution for generating ultrapure water for dialysis.
- MediaPRO – A customisable pre-assembled filtration package for various water treatment needs, including water softening, carbon filtration, and sediment removal.
- HyderPRO Reverse Osmosis – A robust system for long-term, high-quality water supply.
Outcome
We successfully delivered the water purification system, meeting all project milestones and regulatory requirements. The system has been seamlessly integrated into the hospital’s operations, ensuring:
- Providing consistently pure water for critical applications.
- Supporting advanced medical procedures and research.
- Efficient and reliable water treatment.
- A durable and environmentally friendly solution.
