PRODUCTS / SOLUTION: MediaPRO, and PuROtherm RO

Background

We partnered with Kane Construction to provide a specialised water treatment system for the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, as part of a major redevelopment project. This high-demand facility operates 24/7, making system reliability and compliance with AS/NZS 5369:2023 (Tables 7.2 & 7.4) essential.

Objectives

  • Design and install a water treatment system capable of supporting high-volume sterilisation processes.
  • Ensure chlorine removal and water compliance to meet stringent hospital standards.
  • Minimise operational downtime by optimising the thermal disinfection cycle.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance and monthly water testing for system reliability.

Challenges

A key challenge was designing a system that could complete the thermal disinfection cycle in under three hours, two days a week, without disrupting operations. Another challenge was getting the system on site, navigating narrow passages and requiring a hoist lift which restricted the systems height.

Solution

To meet these challenges, we designed and installed a custom RO system featuring a larger RO plant with a 1000L storage tank and heat exchanger to reduce the heat disinfection cycle time. The system incorporated Multimedia Filtration & Reverse Osmosis technology for effective chlorine removal, using Media Pro and PuROtherm RO solutions. To address the logistical challenges of narrow passages, we disassembled some parts of the system and reassembled once inside the plant room. When unforeseen delays impacted the full operation of the system, we adjusted our commissioning approach by implementing a staged process, ensuring project continuity and minimise the effect downstream.

Outcome

The project was delivered within the client’s expectations, with all technical queries addressed promptly and effectively. The optimised system ensured minimal disruption to CSSD operations, and we continue to provide ongoing maintenance and monthly water testing to ensure long-term reliability.

In Summary

This project highlights our technical expertise, problem-solving capabilities, and commitment to delivering reliable water solutions for critical healthcare environments.
